Landlord-Tenant Representation

Landlord-tenant disputes are not just about property. They are often about stability, livelihood, dignity, and the ability to move forward. I provide landlord-tenant representation and consultation with a focus on fairness, due process, and practical solutions.

I am particularly interested in assisting smaller landlords of modest and moderate means—people who may own only one or a few rental units and who often struggle to find counsel willing to take the time to help them at a reasonable cost. These clients are often overlooked in the legal market, even when the issue they face is serious and financially important. I aim to provide careful, honest, and strategic advice to landlords who need real help navigating Oregon’s housing laws.

For landlords, I offer a consultation for a flat fee of $500. If ongoing representation is appropriate, my hourly rate is negotiable depending on the complexity of the matter and the client’s financial constraints. Good legal work takes time, and legal representation can be costly, but I am willing to work with clients in good faith to try to find a reasonable path forward.

For tenants, I may be able to offer free advice on brief tenant-defense matters, but I cannot promise that I will be able to take every case. My ability to represent a tenant depends on the strength and viability of the matter as well as my time constraints. Because eviction and housing cases often move quickly, tenants should seek help as soon as possible.

I strongly recommend that tenants also contact Oregon Law Center. Oregon Law Center provides free civil legal help to low-income Oregonians, including help with housing and landlord-tenant matters, and its Eviction Defense Project provides free legal assistance to qualifying low-income tenants facing eviction proceedings. In many situations, Oregon Law Center is in a better position to provide full-service tenant advocacy.
